Baġit 2020 – Inkomplu Nikbru Flimkien

“The 2020 budget is testament to this government’s work towards making our society grow, as a democracy, and also culturally,” stated Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici, during a press conference highlighting budgetary measures which fall under his Ministry’s remit.

Minister Bonnici noted that, once again, this government is investing heavily in our country’s cultural sector, as it is one of the main factors that shape our identity as a country.

“During 2020, we will be working towards an extensive consultation focusing on the better cultural use of Pjazza Teatru Rjal, which will look into maximising this unique cultural location’s potential, so that it will better serve its role in our country’s cultural and artistic calendar. We will also be introducing a new cultural policy, which will reflect our aims with regards to the sector’s growth, accessibility and sustainability,” Minister Bonnici continued.

Minister Bonnici noted that the measures mentioned in the 2020 budget, in relation to culture, are all things which our society can benefit from, in a manner that promotes a better way of life for our citizens, through the strengthening of our cultural product. He also referred to the ongoing restoration works which form a central part of our cultural strategy, especially as they continue to further strengthen the cultural legacy for generations to come.

Minister Owen Bonnici also referred to the measures in relation to the justice sector, including the continuation of its modernisation, thanks to digital technology, which will deliver better and more efficient services to our citizens.

He also mentioned the ongoing process for the strengthening of the Asset Recovery Bureau, as well as the separation of the Attorney General’s duplicate functions.

Minister Bonnici concluded by stating that these are only some of the measures for 2020, which will continue building on the work done during the past years.
