Budget2018: investiment bla preċedent fis-settur kulturali u kreattiv ta’ €70 miljun



B’ investiment bla preċedent, fil-budget għas-sena 2018 ġew allokati €70 miljun għas-settur kulturali u kreattiv.

Dan jirrappreżenta l-iktar darba li ġew allokati fondi għal dan is-settur. Il-Ministru għall-Ġustizzja, Kultura u Gvern Lokali Owen Bonnici qal dan waqt li ndirizza konferena tal-aħbarijiet.

Il-Ministru Bonnici spjega kif dan l-investiment ifisser żieda ta 10% mill-budget allokat għall-istess setturi għall-2017 u żieda ta’ 158% mill-baġit allokat għall-2013. Filfatt, filwaqt li għall-2013 kien hemm allokat €27 miljun, għall-2018 hemm allokat €70 miljun.

Fl-okkażjoni tal-Belt Kapitali Ewropea għall-Kultura fl-2018, l-Ministru Bonnici spjega kif hemm allokati €8 miljun sabiex jintuzaw mill-Fondazzjoni Valletta 2018, liema investiment jissokta fuq sensiela ta' investimenti li saru fl-aħħar leġiżlatura.

Aspett ieħor importanti fis-settur kulturali hu r-restawr. Filfatt, id-Direttorat tar-Restawr se jgawdi minn €5.3 miljun f’finanzjar dirett għall-proġetti ta’ restawr, kważi d-doppju ta’ dak li kien allokat għall-2017.

Il-Ministru Bonnici tenna li dan kollu jirrifletti l-ħidma tal-Gvern favur il-kultura, settur li qed jikkontribwixxi għal 6% tal-Prodott Gross Domestiku ta’ pajjiżna. Fuq kollox, il-Ministru Bonnici kkonkluda li, permezz ta’ dan investiment qed insaħħu l-wirt kulturali ta pajjiżna bil-għan li nħallu legat u b’hekk inħallu futur aħjar għal dawk li ġejjin warajna.

Budget 2018: an unprecedented investment in the cultural and creative sectors amounting to €70 million

€70 million were allocated for the cultural and creative sectors in the budget for the year 2018. This is the first time such an amount was allocated for this sector. Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici presented these figures during a press conference.

Minister Bonnici explained how this investment reflects a 10% increase when compared to the budget for the year 2017 and an increase of 158% when compared to the budget allocated for 2013. In fact, while €27 million were allocated for year 2013, €70 million were allocated for 2018.

In the light of 2018 being the year when Valletta will be titled as the European Capital of Culture, €8 million were allocated to Valletta 2018 Foundation, an investment which builds on previous investments in the last legislature.

Restoration is another important cultural aspect. In fact the Restoration Directorate will benefit from €5.3 million in direct funding for restoration projects, nearly double that of what was allocated for 2017.

Minister Bonnici explained that all this reflects Government’s commitment to enhance the cultural sector, contributing to 6% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product. Above all, Minister Bonnici concluded that, this investment is enhancing the country’s cultural heritage with the final aim being that of creating a legacy, hence creating a better future for the next generations.
